About this Video
Come and hear how companies are using LCA in ‘the real world’. Each representative will briefly illuminate how LCA is being used at their organization.
- AMELYS BRITO, MOHAWK INDUSTRIES
- The Power of LCAs & EPDs in Flooring Industry
- This flash talk explores how Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are transforming the carpet industry, by helping to identify manufacturing hotspots, enhancing product competitiveness and setting climate targets. Learn how data-driven sustainability strategies are shaping the future of the flooring industry.
- ANNA OSTRANDER, AMERICAN WOOD COUNCIL
- Improving EPD Efficiency for Wood Products
- AWC has developed an online LCI survey which collects manufacturing data from wood products mills across the country for use in Environmental Product Declarations. This presentation will showcase the work AWC has been doing to automate the LCA process and streamline creation of EPDs for the wood products industry.
- BRUCE W UHLMAN, BASF
- Enabling our Customer’s Green Transformation through Life Cycle Analysis
- CONNIE HENSLER & KRISTEN WILDER, INTERFACE
- Interface is Made for More, so is LCA.
- How Interface is using LCA for Scope 3 GHG inventory reporting. For manufacturing companies GHG inventory reporting for Scopes 1 and2 are relatively straightforward and are based on energy consumption, but Scope 3 is more difficult as much of it is outside of company boundaries. LCA results can be used to capture much of the Scope 3.
- ELEAZER RESURRECCION, SHAW INDUSTRIES
- sustain[HUMAN]ability®: Cradle to Cradle® Principle from a LCA Perspective
- HONG JIN, AMSPEC GROUP
- Enhanced Data Management and Document Control for LCA Critical Reviews and Verifications
- Historically, life cycle assessment (LCA) has been used for assessing environmental risks, identifying “hot spots” along product value chain, screening technologies, and informing business decisions. It is often a best practice to present LCA results in a range instead of a single value. Due to the strong push for more corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting and environmental product declarations (EPDs) during past decade, the amount of published LCA studies and the GHG inventory data have increased exponentially. There is a call for more accurate and verifiable LCAs and for better data management systems. In today’s talk, AmSpec will go over relevant guidelines in the international standards and discuss key elements of an effective data management system, and how this will help streamline the critical review and third-party verification processes.
- MICHELE WALLACE, COTTON INCORPORATED
- Finding Opportunities, Setting Goals for Cotton
- The focus is on the 2016 Cotton and Cotton Products LCA and the resulting agricultural improvement goals and sustainability research.
- PRANEETH ANNAM, CELANESE
- Role of LCA in Sustainable Material Development
- RIFAT KARIM, ADITYA BIRLA GROUP
- Life Cycle Assessment of Carbon Black
- This lightning talk introduces the carbon black manufacturing process and presents Birla Carbon’s approach to conducting and communicating Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) results. The LCA study follows ISO 14040/44 standards and has been verified by a third-party reviewer. It highlights Birla Carbon’s commitment to transparency by publicly sharing cradle-to-gate LCA results and introduces a banding methodology; a simplified system for conveying product carbon footprints using weighted averages across global production facilities. The goal is to support downstream clients with more accessible and actionable sustainability data.
- SAM SCHNEIDER, SAINT-GOBAIN NORTH AMERICA
- 100% LCA at Saint-Gobain
- SHAHANA BANO, KOHLER
- Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) applications at Kohler
- This session will highlight about the LCA followed by EPD in green building certification additionally it will include importance of data quality in LCA and how it can make a variation in outcome.
- TINU-OLOLADE FOLAYAN, DUPONT
- Challenges in Collecting, Validating and using Supplier Data for Lifecycle assessment
- Reliable supplier-specific data is foundational to robust LCAs, yet practitioners continue to face systemic challenges in its collection, validation and application. The talk will provide a brief walkthrough of common barriers encountered in working with supplier data, as well as an overview of practical approaches used to address these challenges within Dupont.
- WILSON LEONG, BAKER HUGHES
- Leveraging Our Internally Developed LCA Tool
